Ornitholidays Forty years ago, in 1965, a far-sighted Lawrence Holloway realised that birders wanted the opportunity to travel abroad to expand their ornithological knowledge. Ornitholidays was born, with the first tours running to the Camargue in France and Lake Neusiedl in Austria. Forty years on and tourism is the world's largest industry, with virtually every country offering something for the travelling birdwatcher and naturalist. We still travel to France and Austria, but now also farflung countries like Japan, Borneo, Brazil, Ecuador and even the Antarctic continent are easy to visit. I believe we are living in the golden age of travel, where flight costs are still relatively cheap, most countries accept tourists with open arms and pristine wilderness areas are still numerous. Long may it continue this way! For 2005 we have some new tours to tempt you, with itineraries to Jamaica and the Cayman Islands, Menorca, Ecuador, Finland and Russia, Kos and South Africa. As always we have our old favourites such as Trinidad and Tobago, Lesvos, Australia, New Zealand and many more. We hope that Ornitholidays has something to offer you for our Ruby Year.
